Breeding of Emmer Wheat (Triticum dicoccum)

Emmer wheat (Triticum diccocum) is an ancient durum wheat (AA and BB genome), which considered as durum wheat with special quality. Emmer wheat market includes grains and flour products for boutique restaurants and bakeries around the world. In this project, we have tested more than 150 T. diccocum lines in the north of Israel - Golan Heights.

Preliminary, we have tested the collection for its agronomic under Mediterranean conditions targeting lines with high grain yields, appropriate phenological range  (earliness, day-length insensitivity, insensitivity to vernalization), diseases tolerances and fewer agronomic parameters (lodging, threshing capacity), etc.

Crossing program between the superior emmer genotypes is underway.
